The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant in aid worth Rs72.09 crore for construction of rural roads in Jammu & Kashmir. The aid has been release as part payment of first instalment of Phase VI under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The sum is from the special window created in NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development) under RIDF as grants in aid to the Jammu & Kashmir State Rural Roads Development Agency (JKSRRDA), which is an autonomous agency executing the works in the state.
PMGSY is a 100 % centrally sponsored scheme to provide road connectivity in the rural areas of the country. The scheme envisages connectivity to all habitations with a population of 500 persons and above in the rural areas and about 250 persons and above in respect of the hilly states, tribal areas and desert areas through good and all weather roads.

Roads without need
Investigate on ground level that there are most of the roads under PMGSY & NABARD were not for need but only to withdraw funds from the deptt. and agecies by the contractors and departments and there is huge variation of actual cost and proposed cost of construction and most of the roads are under construction and completed in Govt. documents. Can you dare to see this?
