Through a statement, CII has welcomed the Policy Guidelines for Grid Connected Solar Projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission released in New Delhi on 25 July 2010. "The Solar Mission implementation guidelines (both grid and off-grid) have clearly underscored the importance Government is providing to Solar implementation in the country. By mandating the 'Made in India content', Government has provided much required thrust to the Indian Solar Manufacturing sector and also ensured faster reduction of costs through indigenization," said Mr Deepak Puri, Chairman, CII National Committee on Renewable Energy & Chairman, Moser Baer India Pvt Ltd.
Going forward the Global companies should be encouraged to set up manufacturing base in India to ensure technology access and cost reduction through indigenization. Stringent selection criteria of solar project developers will deter non-serious players from participating in the Solar Mission projects. Overall the policy and guidelines have been quite satisfactory and Industry will work closely with the government to achieve the dream of 20GW by 2022, said the CII Press Statement.
