Binani Cement Ltd has implemented effective energy efficiency measures in order to keep up with its initiative of observing green norms across its operations. The initiative will allow the company combat Global Warming and adhere to the best eco-friendly practices by ensuring energy conservation.
As a part of the overall exercise being carried out at its Rajasthan plant, the Company is set to install captive power plants and induct certain new-age technologies in its operations. Accordingly, in order to attain self reliance on power, it has set up three units of captive plants with a total of 70 MW power generations, capable of meeting 100% of its power requirement.
Binani Cement is the first in the country to successfully utilize the high carbon flyash generated from its old captive power plant in an environmentally sound manner by feeding it into the kiln system via clinker cooler through an indigenously designed system.

With this the company is able to save about Rs165 lakhs per annum.
With further technology induction, the Company has also installed a new generation Multi Movable Cross Bar (MMX Bar) Cooler in its new Cement Plant at Binanigram. This makes Binani Cement the first Company in India and third in the world to have such a state-of-the-art clinker cooling technology. Binani has also installed Air Cooled Condensers (ACC) in both the new units of CPP, which is a revolutionary cooling technology meant to reduce the fresh water requirement for cooling by around 90% when compared with the traditional Water Cooled Condensers.
In addition, Air Cooled Condenser is also being installed by replacing the traditional Water Cooled Condenser in its old Thermal Power Plant. In addition, Binani Cement is one step ahead in setting up the latest Dust Cleaning technology - Reverse Air Bag house with state-of-the-art PTFE Glass Membrane filtering media with pulse jet cleaning technology in both the kilns.
This helps the company to maintain < 25 mg/Nm3 of stack emission from the kiln exhaust gases. Such an emission level brings the Company at par with the European Standards, which are 25-30 mg/Nm3.
The company through its efficient energy management system has set an example for its peers in the industry by successfully managing to reduce the specific power consumption by almost 20% and Thermal Energy consumption from 737 to 680 Kcal/Kg Clinker.
Binani Cement with its efficient energy management systems has contributed savings of approximately Rs783 lakhs during the last 3 years. Vinod Juneja, MD said, "As a responsible corporate citizen, Binani Cement has always worked towards saving energy by way of combating climate change, reducing carbon footprint and preserving the world's natural resources.
We also look forward to promote best energy saving practices across the company. Our aim is to identify special energy saving projects for the company and to increase employee commitment towards energy efficient practices and processes."
The company has also laid emphasis on replacing fossil fuels by utilizing agro wastes such as De-oiled Castor Cake, Rotten Wheat, saw dust, mustard and groundnut shells etc. and has installed full-fledged feeding systems in both its manufacturing units for optimum utilization of these alternative fuels.
The company has also been implementing various innovations, modifications in its manufacturing process with an aim to improve the energy efficient measures by installing automatic power factor controller, additional capacitor banks and by replacing cooling water pumps with energy efficient pumps, installation of energy saving bricks in the kiln and the likes.
