Schneider Electric opens Innovation Challenge 2010

, July 23rd, 2010

Schneider Electric has announced the 6th edition of Innovation Challenge, a search by the company to recognize the smartest engineering brains. The success of the previous five editions of the competition in India led the company to take it global. This year, the company has opened this competition to engineering colleges from 15 Asian countries also.
Innovation Challenge is a contest for undergraduate engineering students, with different themes proposed every year. This year's theme is 'Energy Efficient Buildings'. The contest invites students to display creativity and simplicity in solutions to the given problem, and in doing so, compete with the best engineering minds across countries.
It also seeks to build commitment to research and development and a feel for the real issues confronting organizations. "Now in its 6th year, Innovation Challenge is getting bigger and reaching out to top engineering colleges across countries. We are pleased to provide engineering students a global platform to showcase their talent and the innovation streak in them.
Through Innovation Challenge, we are also trying to build among young engineers a commitment to research and development," said Dr. Shalini Sarin, Director - Human Resources, Schneider Electric India.
The students will have to come up with an innovative solution to the stated problem and participating teams need to submit white papers to Schneider Electric. An internal jury will assess the presentations and select the best entries. Based on the preliminary evaluation, ten teams will be short-listed for the final round in Bangalore.
The short listed teams will be invited to present their solutions at Schneider Electric's R&D facility - Global Technology Centre - in Bangalore. Each team will be allotted a time of 20 minutes for presentation and another 10 minutes for Q&A. An eminent panel of judges selected from academia and the corporate world will assess the presentations and decide on the winners.
