Another training centre which is opened in Chennai will have the distinction of being the India’s first ever women electrician training centre. The company alongwtith with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation is opening Electrician training centres in Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
In Chennai, SEI has partnered with IMC Society, a PPP model of Tamil Nadu, to open an electrician training centre, exclusively for women. This initiative takes the company’s electrician training centres count across the country to fifteen. In these training centres, the company imparts free electrician training to unemployed youth from the base of pyramid.
Speaking at the inauguration of electrician training centre at the Indra Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Manish Pant, Director Strategy & Alliances, Schneider Electric India, said, "It is our continued effort to provide skill based training to the unemployed youth at the base of pyramid. Through our training centres, we aim to train 4,000 electricians by 2012."
The course duration is 4 months and each batch will have 25-30 students. In a year, each centre will train 75-100 students. The trained electricians are provided support to find employment or start a business of their own.

Trade industry opportunities
I think there is a better opportunity for employment in the trade industries like electrician training than elsewhere especially with school leavers opting for the university route over the past 10 years or so. There is a definite skills shortage and opportunities for fast learners and hard workers to do very well for themselves.
