Union Minister of Power Shri Sushilkumar Shinde launched the India Smart Grid Forum, the first initiative of its kind in the power sector, in New Delhi, according to a statement released by the Power Ministry. Mr Shinde said that 'Smart' and 'Intelligent' are becoming the buzz words for Indian Power Sector because deployment and adoption of latest technologies will help it to leap forward into a new orbit. The Minister said that Smart Grid envisages providing choices to each and every customer for deciding the timing and amount of power consumption based upon the price of the power at a particular moment of time. He said that apart from providing choices to the consumer and motivating them to participate in the operations of the grid, causing energy efficiency and accommodating all generation and storage options, Smart Grid also envisages various properties for the Grid like self-healing and adaptive islanding. This all will enable electricity markets to flourish, Shri Shinde added.
Thanking Shri Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation for accepting to chair the "India Smart Grid Task Force" which the Ministry of Power would shortly be setting up, Shri Shinde said that under his stewardship, we wish to evolve a future roadmap for development of Smart Grid in India aided by the most modern and latest technologies in the field. This Task Force will be an Inter-Ministerial Group and will serve as a focal point for activities related to the Smart Grid.
Delivering a keynote address, Shri Sam Pitroda said that as in IT and Telecom, India will lead in Smart Grid technologies. Congratulating the Power Ministry on its vision for the future he called upon various stakeholders to join hands in overcoming the challenges to light the lamps for the billions.

NESCO is a Reliance Power owned utility in Orissa - not a vendor for any smart grid product
NESCO is the power distribution utility in Orissa that is currently doing trials for this unique smart grid system. This system has been UTILITY PROVEN to eliminate all forms of power theft which is the cause for huge losses in the country. I guess this technology can greatly help in the implementation of Smart Grid especially across India

Review of NESCO Product
Please don't use this forum for promotion of a product rather giving real good inputs for implementation of Smart Grid in our country.

Smart Grid and Power Theft
Any Smart Grid solution has to address two key problems. Eliminate power theft (from overhead lines as well as complete meter bypass) and improve bill realization. An Indian Smart Grid company has successfully deployed as a pilot project its systems that guarantee to eliminate all forms of power theft (including overhead theft) and dramatically improve bill realization. The system has been tested by an utility for its various other features which are best suited to Indian power distribution conditions.

It's time to replan R-APDRP so that we can directly jump to Smart Grid
Our future energy requirement is huge and the gap between generation and need is increasing exponentially. We need to stop and think that can we afford to go for RAPDRP and then implementation of Smart Grid or something needs to be done urgently so that we can directly jump to Smart Grid / AMI implementation? Seems crazy but don't forget the telecom revolution in India that now we are at par with international standards in one go.

It's time to utilize R-APDRP as base
It's time to utilize R-APDRP as base of Smart Grid infrastructure development. All system meters are to be standardized right now to comply future Smart Grid requirement. Rather than going with the proposed SCADA system in R-APDRP, we should think of a PMU based control system. We need to keep in mind that all infrustructure development works in R-APDRP phase II is to be alligned to develop the Power & Communication highway.

We can solve the issue of power requirement
We can easily solve power issue in india. We make sufficient power but cant handle it more as it is. We can start by copying any technology but fail to maintain it. We should adopt the easy and natural way to handle this. Lots of Electricity waste in length of wires for long supply system. Avoid this so that technology can work.
