Industrial cranes manufacture, ElectroMech has tied up with German based Stahl CraneSystems to assemble and market EX range of cranes in India. ElectroMech earlier didn’t have a product to cater to a hazardous environment. “We were looking for a partner wherein we could sell our products to industries where hazardous environment is present like the petrochemical or chemical industry or power plant. Stahl is a global manufacture and, in fact, pioneer when it comes to developing explosive protected technology. So it was but obvious Stahl is correct partner for us,” said Tushar Mehendale, Managing Director, ElectroMech.
With the growing activities of oil and gas exploration in the country, the company feels there is a vacuum for explosive protected range of equipments. “The market is actually very promising because such kind of products have not really been present in the Indian market to a large extend.

We have estimated that the market size in India is about €50 million. Since we have started just now, we would look at capturing about 5% to 10% of total market size over a period of one and half year to two years,” Mehendale added.
The tie-up is also mutually beneficial for Stahl which was looking for a suitable partner to spearhead its operation in India. “We see India as an upcoming market and a challenging market at the same time. Stahl wants to expand in the Indian market and it’s among the top destinations for us,” said Thomas Kraus, Director, Stahl CraneSystems.
ElectroMech will source the components from Stahl in Germany and will do the structural fabrication and entire assembling here in India besides working as a sales partner. Stahl already has presence in India but though export from Europe. With the products being assembled here, the company says, it will help reduce the cost by 30% to 40% against import from Europe.
Mehendale said they are educating the Indian market which is still using old technology. “So it’s more like a shift which we foresee happening in the very near future from moving towards a crane which is currently being manufactured on a decade-old technology by local Indian manufacturers to a crane which embodies the latest technology as far as the explosion protection is concerned,” he added.
