Otis Elevator Company (India) has launched GeN2 which it says is an environment friendly and space-saving elevator for residential and commercial markets. The GeN2 system replaces conventional steel ropes with smooth, polyurethane-coated steel belts, which are up to 20% lighter. The company says since the belts are highly flexible, they have a much smaller bending radius, enabling them to incorporate a compact machine that is up to 70% smaller than a conventional machine.
Pierre Dejoux, president, Otis South Asia Pacific and Gulf Area, says: “We are excited to introduce Otis’ widely embraced GeN2 technology in India, which will clearly offer our customers an ideal solution for both residential and commercial developments.”
The new GeN2 Comfort elevator is best suited for buildings that are up to 45 meters in height. The company says the elevator operates at one meter-per-second and is available to meet a wide range of passenger capacities from five passengers (340 kgs) to up to 15 passengers (1020 kgs).
To be produced at company’s Bangalore manufacturing facility, the elevator, Dejoux says, will enable them to efficiently meet the growing needs of the Indian market.
The GeN2 system, which incorporates ReGen technology, reduces energy consumption by up to 75%. It is also cleaner for the environment as neither the belts nor the gearless machine with sealed-for-life bearings require any additional lubrication.
