Coal India Ltd (CIL) has registered a growth of 7.2% by producing 295.52 Million Tonnes (MTs) of raw coal during April-December for the fiscal 2009-10. This is 19.77 MTs more than the production achieved during the same period last year. While the production through Opencast mines was 263.81 MTs , the underground production was 31.71 MTs.
Gross sales of CIL during the period was 37,546.67 crore against Rs.34,580.87 crore during the same period last year, registering a growth of 8.6%. The figures were revealed duing a performance review conducted recently by Sriprakash Jaiswal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Coal, Statistics and Programme Implementation. The Minsiter also reviewed seven of CIL's subsidiary companies, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL).
Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) exceeded its targets in all activities namely lignite production, over burden removal and power generation during April-December’09. The growth rate was 15.25% (lignite Production), 11.7% (OB removal) & 15.25% (power generation) respectively. A presentation on the ‘future prospects of lignite mining by NLC’, emphasizing the need for diversification of NLC activities was made to the Minister.
The Minister directed the officers of Ministry of Coal and CMDs of Coal/Lignite companies to achieve 100% coal production targets to support the economy. He has also directed that all projects should be completed well in time. He also emphasized the need for bridging the gap between supply and demand and the need to fulfill the demand of power sector.
