HIL launches building blocks for green buildings

Hyderabad Industries Ltd (HIL) has launched its next generation building blocks for green buildings at an event in Mumbai. The Company underlined the need for sustainable building materials that have environmental and health merits.
Abhaya Shankar, MD, HIL, said that the use of ‘Green Building’ materials will help reduce energy consumption, cut down natural resource depletion and pave way for an eco-friendly living. "The company’s unique products such as Aerocon blocks and Panels which are certified by Indian Green Building Council help in creating sustainable buildings," he added.
He also announced that HIL’s new and state of the art manufacturing facility for Aerocon Blocks, due for commissioning in Dec09, will be one of the largest of its kind in Asia. This will help meet the growing demand for green, light weight and cost effective blocks in Mumbai and western India.
KAS Menon, VP (marketing-special products), while addressing the real estate leaders, emphasized on the Theme “ It’s the choices you make” and said that these leaders have to take the initiative in quickly adopting to green technologies, if one has to contain the projected environmental disasters. HIL will partner the industry in developing technologies that will help create sustainable buildings.
Elaborating on Aerocon Blocks, he highlighted that they are dimensionally accurate and have excellent thermal insulation that saves costs on air-conditioning. They are made from fly ash , an industrial waste, light weight and saves on energy guzzling materials like steel and cement. Stating that the Aerocon Blocks are used in the construction of walls of apartments, villas and commercial complexes, he said these blocks substitute clay bricks and concrete blocks.
