Centre to fulfill Rajasthan's demand for coal linkages
The Centre would ensure sufficient coal supply to power projects in Rajasthan. This was stated by Sriprakash Jaiswal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Coal, Statistics and Programme Implementation, during a media interaction.
He was speaking after meeting the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who had called on him in New Delhi. “Rajasthan Government has demanded coal linkages to meet the shortage of coal for its proposed three power projects and we will fulfill the demand,” he said.
The two projects with a combined capacity of 2640 MW will come up at Suratgarh and Chhabra under the public sector. The third one is proposed at tribal-dominated Banswara under the private sector.
The Minister said that the state at present faces a shortage of 6 lakh MT of coal per annum for its existing power stations. The present coal linkages allocated by CEA for existing units of Kota TPS and Suratgarh TPS is 60 lakh MT and 66 lakh MT respectively for the year 2009-10. The State Government is also importing coal upto 8 lakh MT.
