S Jagadeesan, Principal Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat has said that the state aims to achieve 19,259 MW power production by 2012. He informed that there are many proposals in pipeline for the 12th plan.
Calling Gujarat the Energy Hub of India, he said the capacity of power production in the state currently is 11011 MW. The projected peak demand is estimated to be 14,374MW, currently the planned capacity confirmed is 8,248 MW.
Adding to the above Mr. Jagadeesan mentioned that there are also proposals to invest in renewable energy for which wind energy shall be the foremost priority in which 10,000 MW projects are proposed of which 5% have been achieved. Solar energy has the next potential. Jagdeesan also mentioned that power capacity shall be doubled by 2012.
Besides this he also talked about the future plans which were Jyoti Gram Yojna having 24 X 7 power supply, Krushy, DAS (data acquisition systems) etc. He was speaking at the India Energy Conclave 2009 in Ahmedabad.
