For the first time, an Indian architect has been recognized at the recently-concluded MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects 2009 Awards, one of the largest real estate conventions that draws participation from leading architectural firms from around the world. Sanjay Puri from Sanjay Puri Architects received a Commendation Award for his project Cubes.
Held annually to judge innovations in architecture across the globe and attended by over 30,000 delegates this year, the awards function was held at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes – where international firms including Skidmore Owings & Merill, Perkins + Will, Henning Laesen, Odile Decq & Benoit Cornette were present.
Designed on a long and narrow plot in Pune, the Cubes building accommodates a software park and is visually perceived as a series of cuboids stacked asymmetrically over each other with open terraces at each level.

Commenting on the project, the judges observed that the plan generated a set of urban spaces for the office worker while simultaneously creating a visually memorable environment.
