Leg and Beam offer ease-of-use and are trendy

Wipro Furniture Business has a first to its credit. The company has launched India’s first Leg and Beam based system, I’M, its premium range of new age office furniture. A part of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting Group (WCCLG) that manufactures and markets furniture and seating products, the company is betting big on the growth potential of the office furniture business.

Speaking at the Mumbai launch, Parag Kulkarni, vice-president (furniture business), WCCLG, stated that the range was a catalyst for change in office furniture design. “Our research findings suggest the future is moving towards open office architecture. I’M is a green product made from recyclable materials that meets stringent European RoHS (Restricted use of Hazardous Materials) norms.”

The range offers a choice between linear and cluster workstations, T-cluster workstations with storage units, linear benching, table and desk collections and conference solutions ranging from a small six-seater discussion table to a larger 16-seater conference table. “The focus is on refined ergonomics reflected by elevated storage space and improved wire management systems for modern offices. It is also about accommodating more people in less space,” added Kulkarni.

He also revealed that the company was investing in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Waluj (Aurangabad) and had already filed three product patent applications. “We are aiming for a larger share of the estimated Rs1,000 crore organised modular furniture market where almost 30-35% of demand in the premium segment is catered to by foreign players.” Initially, the company will focus mainly on the Mumbai and Delhi market followed by other metros.

According to him, I’M which has already been launched in Chennai and Bangalore, has been positioned as a B2B product.

As part of its ongoing focus to deliver products and technologies that will bear the next wave of growth in the company’s office interiors and furniture business, Wipro has joined hands with three leading international designers namely, Tim Wallace (UK), Conrad Marini (Canada) and Eric Chan (USA).
