The local governments of Iraq have launched two new infrastructure projects worth over US$70 million to build roads in southern parts of the country.
In Missan province, an unnamed local company has been awarded a US$3 million deal to build a 25 km road. The project is expected to be completed within six months.
A US$67.5 million contract to build a major new road in Wassit province has been awarded to another local contractor. This project is expected to take two and a half years to finish.
Last month, the Investment Commission in Missan reportedly signed a contract with a German construction firm for 2,000 new housing units. Baghdad’s local government has also allocated US$173 million from its operational budget to renovate the city’s streets.
