Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is setting up a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu with an initial investment of Rs250 crore.
According to company sources, the project which is to be funded through internal accruals is part of its manufacturing capacity expansion programme with the objective of meeting national power targets during the 11th and 12th plan periods.
The company plans to expand its present 10,000 MW per annum of manufacturing capacity to 20,000 MW by 2011. The new plant would initially produce about 25,000 metric tonne of boiler components. The plant is also expected to generate indirect employment to more than 3000 locals and achieve an annual turnover of about Rs 500 crore.
BHEL has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW per annum. It will further augmenting the capacity to 15,000 MW per annum by December 2009 enroute to touching about 20,000 MW per annum by December 2011.
