The government has approved the increase of Rs11,000 crore in fund allocation for various schemes under the Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) schemes meant for cities will get a hike of Rs6,000 crore, making its allocation to go up from Rs25,500 crore to Rs31,500 crore.
The allocation for the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) component will reach to Rs11,400 core from its earlier allocation of Rs6,400 crore, registering a hike of Rs5,000 crore.
The government said this will give a major boost to development of urban Infrastructure in cities and small and medium towns throughout the country.

The government has so far sanctioned Rs45839.29 crore for 430 projects under UIG and Rs9711.24 crore for 614 projects under UIDSSM. Proposals for purchase of 11885 number of buses for 43 cities has also been approved.
The government has given its approval for three JNNURM projects for Kolkata. The city has got the approval for surface water supply scheme, solid waste management project and construction of a flyover.
The project will be implemented in 30 months by Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
